How to use Extrapacker

A short step-by-step guide — from account to printed load plan.

1 Create an account

Building a load is free. An account unlocks Import, Export, Print, the full Library and saving projects. Without one you can still build and look at everything, and your Library holds up to 10 items.

Top-right, click Create account → enter your name, email and a password (min. 8 characters).
You're logged in right away. Forgot your password? Use Forgot password? — you'll get a 6-digit code by email.

2 Add & configure trailers

Open the Trailers panel → + Add trailer.
Pick a Category and Type — the inside dimensions (L × W × H) fill in automatically, or type your own. Every number field takes a point or a comma.
Four categories: European trailers, American trailers, Shipping containers (ISO) and Custom box — a plain box of your own, 3 × 2 × 2 m to start with, standing on the ground. A custom box takes loadbars; a shipping container does not.
Add as many trailers as you need for a multi-trailer load. Double-click a trailer's name to rename it.
Solo shows only that trailer in every view; the × removes it.
Make a trailer smaller and anything that no longer fits is moved back to To pack — nothing is silently left sticking through a wall. An item can never be made wider, longer or taller than the trailer it sits in; the attempt flashes a red border.
In 3D view, right-click a trailer (on the trailer itself, not on an item) to Move it, Rotate 90° left/right, reset its position, or deselect it.

3 Build your Library

The Library holds reusable item templates (flightcases, boxes…) with a fixed size, weight and colour.

+ Build item makes a template from scratch: name, type, L × W × H (120 × 60 × 60 cm to start with), weight and colour — one or two.
Drag any item from To pack or a trailer onto Library — it's copied as a template, colours and all (the original stays).
Right-click a library item to edit its name, dimensions, weight and colour.
Drag a library item into a trailer or into To pack to place a fresh copy.
Without an account the Library stops at 10 items — enough to try the app out. Creating an account is free and lifts the limit.

4 To pack — your backlog

To pack is the list of items still to load. Fill it by importing a Packing list or dragging in library items.
Drag an item from To pack into a trailer to place it. Removing an item from a trailer sends it back to To pack.

5 Fill the trailers

Drag items inside a trailer to position them. Snap keeps them on a 1 cm grid and edge-snaps to neighbours.
Move between trailers: in Top or Side view, drag an item (or a whole selection) onto another trailer — drop it inside that trailer's outline and it hops across and snaps in. Drop it in empty space and it stays there, outside the trailers (see below).
Select several at once (Top or Side view): hold Shift and drag a box over the items (marquee). You can then move, rotate, tilt or delete the whole selection together.
Stack by dropping one item — or a whole selection — on top of other item(s); with Snap on they rest neatly on top. E.g. select two boxes and drag them onto two others to stack them in one go.
Rotate with R — that turns it clockwise (↻); Shift+R turns it the other way (↺). Tilt/tip with T (Shift+T = the other way); fine-nudge with the Arrow keys (Shift = 10 cm).
An overlapping item inside a trailer is ejected back to To pack when you deselect it — rotate or tilt it to make it fit. Outside the trailers nothing is ejected; there is no wall to fit inside.
Outside the trailers. Drag an item into the empty space below or between the trailers and it stays there — a staging area to try combinations before you commit. Outside items behave exactly like items in a trailer: they stack, group, select (Shift-drag a marquee) and show up in Top, Side and 3D. They count for nothing — no weight total, no axle load, and they are left off the print. Solo keeps them in view; only the print leaves them off. Drag one back onto a trailer and it is loaded again; Del sends it back to To pack.
An item does not slip out of its trailer the moment it touches a wall: you have to push it a good half metre past the edge before it lets go. Sliding a case along the side wall therefore never drops it out by accident.
Two kinds of removing. Del, the Delete button and Move to To pack take the item out of the trailer and put it back on the To pack list. Delete in the right-click menu throws it away for good — Ctrl/Cmd+Z brings it back.
Ctrl/Cmd+C and Ctrl/Cmd+V copy and paste a selection, in a trailer or in To pack.
Loadbars: press L (or + Add loadbar) to add one — it sticks to the mouse, so just move and click to drop it (works in Top & Side view). Esc / right-click / L again cancels. Duplicating a single loadbar drops you straight back into place-on-mouse mode. In Side view, hold Shift while placing to lock one axis — slide left/right at a fixed height, or up/down at a fixed spot.
Change a whole group at once. Identical items are folded into one row with a ×-count, in Truckpack and in To pack. Right-click that row and the Edit window opens for all of them — type one weight, one colour or one dimension and every item in the group follows. Handy for the twenty cases that are the same case.
Group: Ctrl+G groups the selected items, Ctrl+U ungroups — the Ctrl key, also on a Mac (⌘G belongs to the browser). Same as the right-click menu. The selection border flashes once, so you can see it landed.
Straps: press S (or + Add strap in the Library panel), click two points on the trailer walls in Top view and pick the anchor height; Esc cancels. Click a strap to select it; Shift-click adds more — straps and cases mix in one selection, and Duplicate/Delete apply to everything selected. Drag a strap sideways to slide it; double-click an anchor to move only that anchor; Shift-drag = horizontal only, in 2D and 3D. The side it passes the load on is fixed when you place it — right-click to route it past the other side. Leave a hand's width of space next to the strap for the ratchet itself.
A strap comes in two techniques: against the load (the default) lies flat against the cargo — a direct lashing; over the load presses it down from the top — a top-over lashing. Switch in the selection panel or by right-clicking. Either way it pulls tight over the highest points, never dips below its anchors and never cuts through cargo.
Rest items (and truss) on loadbars: they always need two bars to sit on — drop onto two bars and the item springs on top; remove or slide one bar away and the item drops onto whatever is below (or back to To pack). A loadbar sits left or right of a wheel, never on it, and never runs through an item.

6 Views & navigation

Switch Top / Side / 3D (keys 1 2 3). In 3D: drag empty space to orbit, scroll to zoom. Zooming always works towards the spot under your cursor, in all three views. Switching views keeps the place you are looking at: Top and Side hold on to their spot and their zoom, and sliding along the trailer in 3D carries over to them. Turning the 3D view does not move them, and 3D keeps its own zoom, separate from Top and Side.
Click a trailer's header in Truckpack or in Weight & axle load and that trailer lights up everywhere — in both panels, in the Trailers list and in the viewer. The ▸, or a double-click, opens and closes the header instead.
Centre (⌖, bottom-right, key C) frames the scene. Shift+click it once to save the view you are looking at — that works in 3D and in Top and Side — and from then on C snaps straight back to it.
F flips the view 180°. Toggle Size guide (tick marks plus grid) and light/dark; change display units (cm/m ↔ inch/ft, kg ↔ lb) bottom-right.

7 Weight & axle load

Every trailer gets its own block. One click on the header selects that trailer everywhere; the ▸ or a double-click opens it. The line under the header always shows how much of the floor is covered and what the trailer carries.

A trailer on wheels shows load on the kingpin, on the axle group and per axle, against the limits that follow from the number of axles, their spacing and the suspension — all four are yours to overrule. Plus cargo, trailer total, the centre of gravity, the side balance and an indicative tilt point.
A container or a custom box stands on the ground: no kingpin, no axles, so those are not shown. What you get is cargo, volume total (tare + cargo), the centre of gravity and the side balance, with Tare and Max gross to fill in. For a shipping container both are pre-filled from the type; for a box you built yourself nothing is assumed.
On a chassis lifts a container or a custom box off the ground — 1.20 m by default, or type your own deck height. Top view, side view and 3D all move with it, and so does the load inside.
Three checkboxes at the top: Show weight on the drawing puts a weight bar under each trailer, Show centre of gravity draws the CoG marks in top, side and 3D view (the height line carries its own tyre-roll verdict), and Show heatmap colours the items from light to heavy. All three only change the drawing; the figures stay.
Items without a weight are counted in none of these figures. The panel says how many, and pointing at that line lights them up on the drawing — click to select them, right-click to open Edit item straight away.

8 Shortcuts

Click ? (bottom-left of the canvas) for the full list of keyboard & mouse shortcuts — it adapts to the current view.

9 Share a viewer link

A read-only link to this truckpack: your crew, the driver or the client can look at it on a phone, a tablet or a computer — in Top, Side and 3D — without an account and without being able to change anything.

Save the project first — a viewer link belongs to a saved truckpack. Then open the Export menu → Viewer link and press Copy.
The link always shows the latest saved version. Change the load, save again, and everyone who opens the link sees the update — no new link needed.
Choose how long it keeps working: 1, 7 or 30 days. The expiry date is shown in the same window, and Revoke kills the link straight away.
What the viewer can do: switch views, orbit and zoom, flip with F, and use the trailer buttons at the top. What it cannot do: move anything, print, export, or reach your account.

10 Save your work

Logged in: Ctrl+S saves the current project (or account menu → Save project). Not saved yet → it creates a new one.
Logged in, a saved project also saves itself every 10 minutes while you work — only when something actually changed. It never creates a project on its own; the first save is always yours.
Reopen earlier work via My projects in the account menu.

11 Export & print

Export a Truckpack (full state), a Packing list (items only) or your Library as a .json file — Import the same types back.
A packing list and a library also go out as .csv, to open in Excel or Numbers, and come back the same way. The reader takes a point or a comma as the decimal mark, and it says which rows it could not read instead of dropping them silently.
Print… makes a clean load plan — choose Portrait or Landscape in the menu (Ctrl/Cmd+P = Portrait). Printing needs an account, like Import and Export. A trailer in Solo prints only that trailer.
